Concentration Camps

A concentration camp is where soldiers took Jewish people and tortured them for the rest of their lives. The first concentration camps were built soon after Hitler came to power in 1933. These were for political prisoners, members of Resistance and people considered to be inferior by the Nazis. Many prisoners were shot or died of hunger and exhaustion. 

At the beginning of 1942, the Nazis decided to murder all the Jews in Europe  systematically. Concentration Camps were built in Poland designed to kill people in large numbers. The Nazis called these 'extermination camps'. By the end of the second world war
